PURPOSE This operating procedure describes the training programme to be adhered to for all staff working in the _________________ TB Laboratory. This SOP aims at ensuring consistency and uniformity in training and to ensure that laboratory employees receive comprehensive initial and remedial training to perform safe and accurate laboratory testing. 2. SCOPE This SOP applies to all personnel working in the _________________ TB Laboratory. 3. RESPONSIBILITIES This procedure applies to all personnel working at the _________________ TB Laboratory. It is the responsibility of the Head of the ____________________________TB Laboratory to schedule, organize all training. The Head of the TB Laboratory may delegate scheduling and arranging training to an appropriate member of laboratory staff, or to a qualified external consultant where appropriate. The Head of the ________________________TB Laboratory is in charge of assuring that new employees and current employees have received training, and that it is documented as outlined below. 4. CROSS-REFERENCES See: Document Matrix_TB 01-01_V1.0.doc Location: 5. PROCEDURES All technical training will be recorded in the Laboratory Training Checklist. Completed or partially completed forms will be stored in the training files in the _________________ TB Laboratory Office. Use: Laboratory Training Checklist_form.doc Location: 5.1 Safety training This will be mandatory training for all new employees including housekeeping, sample collection, data input and transport staff before commencing work in the laboratory. Safety training will be renewed annually for all employees. 5.2 Laboratory orientation All new employees will receive an orientation that includes tour of the facility, points of contact, and overview of training and the setup of the personnel training folder. All trainings and orientation will be documented in the personnel folder. Page 2 of 3 Laboratory Training_TB 02-03_V 1.0.doc Upon employment, personnel will also be told of the general personnel policies as described in the Employee Handbook _________________ TB Laboratory. See: Employee Handbook_TB_02-02_V1.0.doc Location: 5.3 Specific Laboratory Training All laboratory personnel performing specific testing will receive initial training on each test they will perform prior to performing tests on actual patient samples and reporting results. This initial training is done in accordance with the requirements detailed in the Laboratory Training Checklist. All housekeeping, sample collection, data input and transport staff will receive training in sample collection and transport procedures, laboratory safety (including dealing with spills). All personnel performing testing will receive remedial training after competency testing or other indicators demonstrate the employee is not competent in the performance of the same. Remedial training will be done in accordance with the specific test’s training checklist. The employee, trainer and Head of the TB Laboratory will sign off the training checklist after satisfactory completion of training. 5.4 General Training A general training plan for training not covered in the basic training checklist will be prepared and updated on an annual basis.
