Generic Brand • The unbranded, unlabelled product that has a functional description for a name but no brand value at all. • Generic brand is the brand where the name has become ubiquitous and in so doing has passed into common language as a verb – Google, Xerox, Sellotape. • Velcro is the brand - “hooked fabric fastener” is the generic name. • Xerox is the company- “photocopy” is the generic name. Individual Branding • Also known as flanker brands or multi-branding, • Products are given brand names that are newly created and generally not connected to names of existing brands offered by the company. • Each brand, even within a same company, has a unique name, identity and image, for the company to target different market segments. Individual Brands • Hindustan Unilever- The company has a portfolio that includes the many categories and brands: • Food and drink: Flora, Algida, Knorr, Lipton, Magnum, Cornetto, Bertolli • Home care: Surf, Persil, Comfort • Personal care: Axe, Dove , Lux, Rexona, • Water purifier: Pureit Umbrella Branding/Family Branding • All products manufactured by a company sold under a single brand name. • Starbucks Corporation- Starbucks Corporation (operating as Starbucks coffee) is an American multinational coffee company, which markets all of their products under their corporate brand name. Some products produced by Starbucks include: Starbucks Coffee, Starbucks Tea, Starbucks Drink-ware, Starbucks Equipment, Starbucks Syrups and Toppings etc. • Godrej, Patanjali, Tata, Samsung, Nivea etc. are some of the examples of Umbrella/ Family Brands. Manufacturer’s Brand • A brand which is owned by a manufacturer and/or registered as a trade mark under the manufacturer’s name is referred to as manufacturer’s brand. • Products that carry the name of the manufacturer- • Amul • Haldiram
