Getting	slim	is	a	fun	project	to	do	at	home	or	at	school	â	and	it	only	takes	a	few	daily	ingredients	to	get	it	out.	We	have	recipes	inside.	By	Alia	Hoyt	If	you’ve	already	been	slim	at	home,	take	the	next	step	and	try	kinetic	sand.	It	is	fun,	easy,	educational	and	also	therapeutic.	By	Alia	Hoyt	Science	is	fun	once	it	becomes	easy	--	and	these	easy	science
projects	for	kids	will	show	you	how.	Children	will	learn	the	world	around	them	as	they	look	closer	to	dirt,	rocks,	trees	and	minerals.	These	easy	activities	will	put	children	on	the	road	to	satisfy	their	scientific	curiosity.	Who	knows	where	it	will	lead!	Let	the	easy	science	projects	begin	by	following	these	links:	Grow	Your	Own	CaneSugar	is	sweet	and
you	can	grow	your	own	in	this	easy	activity.	Learn	more.	Settle	for	dirt	In	this	simple	science	project,	you	will	discover	that	dirt	always	knows	the	right	way	to	settle.	Read	on	to	find	out	more.	What	lives	in	a	tree?	All	kinds	of	creatures	live	in	trees.	Take	a	close	look	at	them	in	this	scientific	activity.	Be	a	mineral	detectiveEver	wonders	what	household
items	are	made	of?	Find	out	what	calcium	carbonate	contains	in	this	easy	science	project.	Toc	toc	Many	things	are	made	of	wood.	Watch	how	to	find	them!	deep	freeze	Find	out	what	happens	when	liquids	freeze	in	this	easy	science	project.	Read	a	Weather	MapKids	can	become	weather	experts	after	learning	how	to	read	a	weather	map.	Find	out
more.	Divide	and	Conquer	House	Plants	Use	your	houseplants	in	the	children’s	activity.	Find	out	more.	In	the	first	easy	science	project,	grow	your	cane	indoor.	For	children’s	easiest	and	fun	activities,	see:	Growing	your	own	sugarcane	--	it’s	a	sweet	and	easy	science	project	idea.	Not	only	does	the	children’s	science	activity	look	great,	you	will	have
your	own	sugar	cane	to	use.	What	you	need:	Sugar	cane	Drain	Plot	Large	flower	pot	(about	eight	inches)	Grips	Most	people	don’t	know	that	sugar	cane	is	a	type	of	herb.	Like	grass,	it	grows	quickly	and	easily	into	an	attractive	plant.	Step	1:	Find	a	section	of	fresh	cane	sugar	at	least	a	foot	long.	(You	may	have	to	look	at	a	special	grocery	store.)	Step	2:
Look	close	to	the	joints	in	the	stem	for	a	shield-shaped	sprout	from	which	new	stems	will	grow.	Under	the	shoots	are	small	holes	where	the	roots	will	grow.	Cut	the	stem	two	inches	below	the	bud	and	about	one	inch	above	the	next	joint.	Step	3:	Fill	a	flowerpot	with	potting	soil	up	to	about	two	inches	from	the	edge.	Place	the	cane	in	the	soil	so	that	the
bud	is	just	covered.	Step	4:	Light	the	candle	and	drip	the	melted	wax	on	the	other	end	of	the	barrel	to	prevent	it	from	drying	out.	Step	5:	Keep	the	soil	freshly	moist.	In	a	week	or	two	the	bud	will	be	sprayed.	When	the	new	bud	is	about	six	inches	tall,	add	another	1-1/2	inch	of	potting	soil.	Step	6:	As	more	buds	grow	you	can	cut	the	buds,	peel	them,	and
cut	them	into	sticks	to	mix	hot	drinks	with.	See	how	dirt	falls	into	layers	of	sediment	in	the	next	easy	science	project.	For	easier	and	fun	activities	for	children,	see:In	“Settle	for	Dirt”,	children	can	see	for	themselves	how	the	sediment	is	made.	When	soil,	sand,	and	other	materials	settle	at	the	bottom	of	a	lake	or	pond,	it	is	called	sediment.	Over	time,
layers	of	sediment	can	form	rock.	See	if	children	can	replicate	this	natural	process	with	this	easy	scientific	activity.	What	you	will	need:Jar	with	lidSoilSandGravelWater	Small	plastic	animals	1:	Place	a	handful	each	of	soil,	sand	and	gravel	in	a	pot.	Fill	the	pot	with	water.	Put	the	lid	on.	Step	2:	Shake	the	pot	well	until	everything	is	mixed	together.	Now
let	the	jar	sit	overnight.	Step	3:	In	the	morning,	see	how	the	different	things	in	the	pot	have	settled.	How	would	you	describe	what	you	see?	What	can	you	say	about	the	layers?	Compare	your	layers	to	what	happens	in	a	lake	or	pond.	Step	4:	If	you	want	to	see	how	you	produce	fossilized	critters,	put	small,	plastic	animals	in	with	your	soil,	sand,	and
gravel	mixture.	In	the	next	easy	science	project,	shake	a	tree	and	see	what	what	Out.	For	easier	and	fun	children's	activities,	see:	"What	lives	in	a	tree?"	It	is	an	easy	science	project	that	allows	children	to	discover	the	smallest	inhabitants	of	a	tree.	When	you	shake	a	tree,	you	never	know	what	will	fall	into	this	easy-to-child	activity.	What	you	need:	a
tree	with	a	bed	easy	to	reach	SpatNermagnifNiing	GlassStep	1:	having	a	partner	helps	you	iron	a	white	sheet	under	a	branch	of	a	tree.	(The	nearest	is	the	sheet	to	the	branch,	the	best.)	Step	2:	Shake	the	hard	branch	for	about	a	minute,	then	lay	the	sheet	to	the	ground	and	observe	with	a	magnifying	glass.	What	small	animals	do	you	see?	Look	for
spiders,	adult	insects	and	caterpillars.	Sep	3:	Now	try	the	same	activity	with	a	different	tree.	Do	you	find	the	same	animals	in	a	pine	tree?	Register	your	discoveries	and	Comparisons.	StEp	4:	try	to	sample	the	same	tree	several	times	in	a	year.	See	different	insects	in	different	times?	Be	a	detective	at	your	house	in	the	next	project	and	identify	objects
containing	a	certain	mineral.	For	easier	and	fun	children	activities,	see:	In	this	easy	science	project,	be	a	mineral	detective	and	discover	the	calcium	carbonate	at	your	home.	Calcium	carbonate	is	one	of	the	most	common	minerals	of	nature.	Children	can	eradicate	their	sleacing	skills	in	this	easy	science	project.	What	you	will	need:	jarvinegarraw	egg
wide	mouth	(in	the	shell)	different	types	of	chilkboth	gushbshells	and	limestone	contain	calcium	carbonate,	and	a	little	chalk	is	made	by	it.	It	is	simple	to	find	out	whether	a	substance	has	or	not	a	calcium	carbonate	in	it.	Just	drop	a	sample	in	a	vinegar	jar.	If	vinegar	dissolves	(or	partially	dissolves)	the	substance,	it	contains	calcium	carbonate.	To
prove	this,	fill	a	jar	with	vinegar.	Gently	put	an	entire	egg	in	the	jar.	Look	at	the	eggshell,	it's	starting	out.	More	than	a	couple	of	days,	it	will	dissolve	completely!	This	is	because	an	eggshell	is	almost	all	the	calcium	carbonate.	Same	thing	with	different	chalk	samples.	If	the	chalk	is	made	from	calcium	carbonate,	it	will	screw	and	at	least	partially
dissolve.	Some	plaster	is	made	by	another	mineral	called	Gypsum,	which	will	not	spoil	and	dissolve	in	vinegar.	What	other	materials	are	your	home	articles	made?	Look	what	is	made	of	wood	in	the	next	Easy	Science	Project	for	Kids.For	easier	and	fun	children's	activities,	see:	The	Busk	on	Wood	Easy	Science	Project	teaches	children	that	trees	give	us
more	than	one	shady	place	on	hot	summer	days.	Find	the	products	that	trees	provide	the	Busk	project	in	wood.	How	to	knock	on	wood:	do	you	have	a	baseball	bat?	How	about	a	pencil?	Does	your	house	have	a	wooden	table	or	chairs?	There	are	so	many	things	done	by	the	trees	it	is	difficult	to	count	all!	Try	to	walk	through	your	house	and	find	so	many
things	you	can	that	came	from	trees.	Look	for	wooden	objects,	besides	paper	and	cardboard.	Do	not	forget	to	count	the	fruits	-	like	apples	-	growing	on	the	trees.	In	the	next	easy	science	project	for	children,	see	what	happens	when	the	liquid	freezes	inside	an	object.	For	easier	and	fun	children's	activities,	see:	In	the	Project	Freeze	Easy	Science
Project,	children	will	discover	how	Rocks	Break.	Winter	can	be	hard	on	everyone	-	even	on	the	rocks.	See	how	cold	affects	more	than	the	other	toes	with	the	deep	freezing	experiment.	What	is	necessary:	Eggsmall	Sealeable	Plastic	BagStep	1:	Put	an	egg	in	a	sealed	plastic	bag	and	put	the	bag	in	the	freezer	overnight.	STEP	2:	In	the	Morning,	see	what
the	freezing	temperature	has	done	to	the	egg.	When	the	egg	freezes,	it	expands	and	breaks	its	shell.	Winters	freeze	the	same	thing	to	the	rocks	they	havein	them.	moisture	expands	as	it	freezes,	making	the	rocks	break.	3:	When	you	are	out	walking	in	winter,	see	if	you	can	find	rocks	that	have	been	in	deep	nature.	a	rock	that	is	broken	into	pieces	but
still	in	its	original	form	is	probably	a	victim	of	the	icy	winter	force.
