What Benefits Do Templates Provide? • Included templates reflect typical SDS/2 details –Have improved certain areas • Stairs • Gussets • Customizable –Easy to disable certain templates • Reduces monotonous deleting of annotations –Creating/Modifying can be complicated (think parametrics) –Suggest modifying included templates • Design Data can make fixes more quickly • Drawing overrides –Change Setup options per drawing • Set default Detailing Annotations/Dimensioning Defaults What Are Templates? • Templates are files that contain rules about when/where to apply dimensions, labels, pointers, etc. to member, group member, and submaterial details –Each template can contain any number of rules –Rules also contain information on where to place items How Do Templates Work? • Details contain numerous stored points called Named Locations • During detailing, for every detail, SDS/2 reads each template and rule within the template • If all Named Locations in a rule are matched on the detail, the item is added in the specified location Where Are Templates Stored? • Templates are stored in SDS/2 data directory –detailing\Default or detailing\Design Data –Design Data will be overwritten during installs –Can create your own folders • Folder for each fabricator • Templates used for a project are stored in fab –If one fab exists, one folder named default_templates will exist • 1_templates will be created after members are detailed –Multiple fabs can mean multiple sets of templates and folders • 1_templates, 2_templates, etc. Creating a New Project • Creating from scratch –Need to select a Template source • Copies templates from source into fab upon creation • If copying from existing job –All fabs from that job are copied • This includes templates from those fabs • Converted fab will have default templates • Utility Functions • Copy Detailing Templates
