Riddell Formula© Calculator
The Riddell Formula© is used to determine hours of work
If your employer does not use locums to cover annual leave on your rota then you are working with 'prospective cover' and must calculate the additional hours worked by colleagues covering each other's leave. This is done with the Riddell Formula.
The Riddell Formula © | Junior Doctors' Leave Entitlements
Average hours per week = | D - ( E X C )
B - E | |||||||||||||
A = total leave entitlement for the year (in weeks) | Foundation Year Doctors 5 weeks |
||||||||||||
B = number of weeks in the rota cycle (often equal to the number of doctors) | StRs and SpRs on pay points 0, 1 or 2 5 weeks |
||||||||||||
C = number of hours in a leave week where cover is not provided by colleagues | StRs and SpRs on pay points 3 or higher 6 weeks |
||||||||||||
D = total hours worked in the rota cycle if no leave is taken | All junior doctors are also entitled to eight public holidays and two statutory holidays a year, or days in lieu.
E = ( A/52 X B ) | |||||||||||||
