Sheet 1: Directions
Thank you for taking on the work of aligning your unit's strengths and desired future state with the University's strategic plan.
A thorough planning alignment discussion should occur within and across offices, divisions, or colleges before you complete this template. Planning Council has developed a high-level process outline and a more detailed self-study process to support your planning discussions. You may choose to rely on recent planning efforts, use either document, or combine the two documents, depending on the preferences and experiences of the unit.
Completing your planning alignment discussions will provide the information requested in this template. We ask you to fill this in as completely as you can. Completed templates will help Planning Council assess coverage of the strategic plan and will allow support functions to anticipate local needs.
Each unit may select the Intentional Focus areas and goals that it plans to address. Not all units will address all areas. You may skip goals.
If the unit has multiple local goals and/or strategies within an Intentional Focus or Goal, feel free to add rows. If the unit will not address a Intentional Focus or Goal, you may delete or leave blank that row.
Please add as many of the requested details as possible. These help other units who support your work to plan, and they foster more complete planning discussions in your units.
As you consider resource needs, please first think about things you can stop doing or things you can do more effectively in order to better move the University toward its strategic goals. Indicating a need for additional resources here will not serve as a request for resources, but it should help you prioritize and effectively time your requests for budget, positions, space, technology or other resources through existing proposal processes, which will rely on the University's and your division's strategic planning efforts.
For additional resources to facilitate the planning alignment process in your unit, please see the Planning Council's website:
www.montana.edu/planningcouncil
Content review of the plans should take place within our existing organizational structure. Planning Council will not review plans for content, only for coverage. Supervisors should ensure that plans are aligned within the unit and with the University's strategic plan.
If you have any questions, please contact Chris Fastnow, cfastnow@montana.edu, x2870.
Submit your completed Planning Alignment Template to strategicplan@montana.edu by September 15, 2019.
