The committee hereby certifies that ______________________________________ (Name) of ____________________ (Town or City) was duly elected to the office by the voters present and voting. ___________________________________ Town Clerk __________________________________ Election Official Note to Town Clerks: 17 V.S.A. ยง 2592(i) requires the town or city clerk to mail or deliver in person to each candidate elected a copy of this certificate prepared by the town clerk and one election official. The town clerk must also mail a list of the names and addresses of the justices of the peace, and a notation of those who are newly elected to the Office of the Secretary of State, Elections Division, and must notify the Elections Division of any changes in the names and addresses at any time until the next election. Note to all persons who are presented with a Certificate of Election as a Justice of the Peace: YOUR TERM DOES NOT BEGIN UNTIL FEBRUARY 1 of the year following the General Election and runs for two years. Unless you are an incumbent (already serving as JP in your town) you CANNOT perform any duties as a Justice of the Peace until you have taken the Oaths of Office and Allegiance AND UNTIL FEBRUARY 1 of the year following the General Election and runs for two years.
