Computer Science 20 Course Outline and Evaluation Scheme Mr. M. Knight – Room 202 COMPUTER SCIENCE 20 Computer Science 20 is an introduction to problem-solving using programming languages. Students will investigate the use of data types, control structures, functions, common coding techniques and one-dimensional arrays to solve a range of problems. Additionally, students will explore the technologies that underlie the internet, the evolution of computing machinery and computer security practices and privacy implications. Lastly, students will have the opportunity to create a major project. Unit 1 Computing & Society Unit 3 Fundamentals of Programming Unit 2 Problem Solving Unit 4 Major Coding Project The following evaluation scheme may be modified at the discretion of the instructor. COURSE EVALUATION SCHEME 1. ASSIGNMENTS 60% 2. QUIZZES/EXAMS 20% 3. FINAL EXAM 20% TOTAL 100% The course will include a number of different types of assignments and evaluations that will incorporate many different evaluative approaches. All students will be REQUIRED to complete all assignments and exams in this class. All students that are absent from an exam with an unexcused absence will receive a grade of “0”. Any NHI assignments will turn to a grade of zero after the semester OAR dates have passed. Computer Rules ABSOLUTELY NO food or drink. Only water in a SEALED container. No downloading or anything inappropriate on your account. No music, YouTube or games unless given permission by teacher. Students must use the same device for the entire semester. Use only your computer account. Check your computer before you begin working each day for damages and to be sure your account is the one logged into.
