This	article	is	about	a	book.	See	C	(programming	language)	to	learn	about	the	language	itself.	Programming	language	C	(sometimes	called	K&R	in	its	authors'	initials)	is	a	computer	programming	book	written	by	Brian	Kernigan	and	Dennis	Ritchi,	the	latter	of	which	initially	developed	and	introduced	the	language,	and	developed	the	Unix	operational
system	together.	Language	development	was	closely	linked.	The	book	played	a	key	role	in	the	development	and	promotion	of	programming	language	C	and	is	still	widely	read	and	used.	Since	the	book	was	written	in	a	co-author	with	the	original	language	developer,	and	since	the	first	edition	of	the	book,	many	years	served	as	a	language	standard,
many	considered	the	book	as	authoritative	reference	to	C.	[1]]	Wychangli-Language	and	Programming	Preprentice	Hallldate	in	the	publication1978	(1st	edition)	The	1st	edition	of	1988	(edition	2)	ISBN978013101630	C	has	created	the	2nd	edition). Kernigan	wrote	most	of	the	book	"Explanatory"	material,	and	Richie's	reference	management	became	its	applications.	The	first	edition,	published	on	February	22,	1978,	was	the	first	widely	available
book	on	the	SI	programming	language.	Its	C	version	is	sometimes	called	K&R	C	(in	honor	of	the	authors	of	the	book),	often	to	distinguish	this	early	version	from	the	later	C	version	standardized	as	Ansi	C.	in	April	1988,	the	second	edition	of	the	book	was	published,	updated.	To	cover	changes	in	the	language	associated	with	the	then	new	Ansi	C
standard,	especially	the	inclusion	of	reference	material	in	standard	libraries.	Since	then,	the	second	edition	of	the	book	(and	since	2022	and	last)	has	been	translated	into	more	than	20	languages.	In	2012,	the	electronic	version	of	the	second	edition	of	EPUB,	Mobi	and	PDF	formats	was	published.	Ansi	C,	which	was	first	standardized	in	1989	(eg	Ansi
X3.159-1989),	has	since	made	a	number	of	reviews,	the	latter	of	which	is	ISO/IEC	9899:	2018	(also	called	C17	or	C18),	which	In	June	was	the	Ansi	standard.	2018.	However,	the	new	Programming	Language	C	edition	was	released,	covering	later	standards.	Byte	magazine	said	in	August	1983:	“[C	Programmingis	the	ultimate	work	on	the	C	language.
Don't	read	on	until	you	have	this	book!”	[1]	Jerry	Pournelle	wrote	in	that	year's	magazine	that	the	book	"is	still	standard	...	a	little	short."	He	continued,	"You	can	learn	C	without	Kernighan	and	Ritchie,	but	it's	a	hard	road.	You're	also	working	too	hard	if	you	make	it	the	only	C	book	you	buy."	The	C	programming	language	has	often	been	cited	as	a
model	for	technical	writing,	with	reviewers	describing	it	as	clear	presentation	and	succinct	processing.	The	examples	generally	consist	of	complete	programs	of	the	type	you	would	encounter	in	everyday	use	of	the	language,	with	an	emphasis	on	systems	programming.	Its	authors	said	that	we	tried	to	keep	the	first	edition	concise.	C	is	not	a	big
language	and	being	a	large	book	is	not	well	supported.	We	improved	the	exposition	of	critical	functions,	such	as	pointers,	which	are	essential	for	C	programming.	We	improved	the	original	examples	and	added	new	examples	to	several	chapters.	For	example,	the	processing	of	complex	declarations	has	been	extended	to	programs	that	convert
declarations	to	words	and	vice	versa.	As	before,	all	examples	are	tested	directly	from	text,	which	is	in	machine-readable	form.	Foreword	to	the	Second	Edition[8]	"Hello,	World!"	by	Brian	Kernighan's	book	(1978)	introduced	the	program	"Hello,	World!",	which	prints	only	the	text	"hello,	world",	as	an	illustration	of	a	minimal	worker	program	in	C.	Since
then,	many	texts	have	followed	this	convention	for	entering	a	programming	language.	Before	the	advent	of	ANSI	C,	the	first	edition	of	the	text	served	as	the	de	facto	language	standard	for	authors	of	C	compilers.	With	the	standardization	of	ANSI	C,	the	authors	more	consciously	wrote	the	second	edition	for	programmers	than	for	compiler	builders,
saying	that	Appendix	A,	the	reference	manual,	is	not	a	standard,	but	our	attempt	to	convey	the	essence	of	the	standard	in	a	smaller	space.	It's	meant	to	be	easy	for	programmers	to	understand,	but	not	as	a	definition	for	compiler	designers	-	that	role	actually	belongs	to	the	standard	itself.	Appendix	B	is	a	summary	of	standard	library	equipment.	It's
also	meant	to	be	a	reference	for	developers,	not	implementers.	Appendix	C	is	a	brief	summary	of	changes	from	the	original	version.	Preface	to	the	second	edition[8]	The	influence	of	the	C	programming	language	on	programmers	whose	first	generation	workedIn	the	C	universities	and	industry,	many	were	encouraged	to	adopt	a	programming	style	and
authors'	convention	as	recommended	practices,	if	not	legislation.	For	example,	the	style	of	encoding	and	formatting	programs	described	in	both	book	editions	of	Linux.
