           The following is an initial list of books recommended for reading prior and during your first 
           year on the course. It is certainly not recommended that you purchase all of these books at 
           this stage, it may be best to use the books from libraries before making any selection of the 
           books you would like to acquire. You will be given more complete lists of references for each 
           module once you begin the course. 
            
           Good general books on ecology worth buying are: 
            
           Krebs CJ. 2013. Ecology: Pearson New International Edition: The experimental analysis of 
           distribution and abundance. Pearson 
            
           or 
            
           Townsend C, Begon M, Harper JL. 2008. Essentials of Ecology (3rd edition). Blackwell. 
            
           You can pick these (or former editions) up cheaply second hand. 
            
            
           A good general background on biology, much of which is very useful for ecology and 
           conservation is:  
            
           Urry LA, Cain ML, Wasserman SA, Minorsky PV, Reece JB. 2016. Campbell biology (11th Ed.). 
           Pearson. 
            
           You can pick this (particularly former editions) up cheaply second hand.
