                                       COTTON FIBRE CALCULATOR
                                                        v2.1 August 2021
      About this Calculator
This calculator is designed to help Better Cotton Retailer & Brand Members ('RB Members') to measure their cotton fibre consumption. An
RB Member's cotton consumption determines their annual Better Cotton Membership Fees.
It is designed to be used in conjunction with the Better Cotton document "Measuring Cotton Consumption: Requirements & Guidance".
The use of this calculator is optional. RB Members are welcome to use their own calculation methods. Other tools available in the industry
are also accepted by Better Cotton.
Use of this calculator does not guarantee compliance with Better Cotton's requirements for measuring cotton consumption. RB Members
(including prospective members) are responsible for ensuring that they comply with these requirements.
This calculator is best viewed on a screen with a resolution of at least 1920x1080 pixels.
      How to Use this Calculator
      This calculator includes two modes:
          1) A 'Fast Estimate Tool' for RB Members who already know, or can approximate their cotton fibre consumption, and,
          2) A 'Detailed Tool' for RB Members who have collected their product information for a complete 12 month period.
Instructions for each mode are found on their respective worksheet.
      Methodology & Assumptions
The detailed tool calculates cotton fibre consumption according to the following formulae:
Product Cotton Fibre Consumption = Product Weight * Product % Cotton * Product Units (Bought or Sold) * Product to Fibre Conversion
      Factor
RB Member Cotton Fibre Consumption = Sum of each [Product Cotton Fibre Consumption]
Product weights and conversion factors are secondary data sources intended to help RB Members measure their cotton consumption
despite common data gaps. RB Members who have data specific to their supply chain may wish to carry out their own calculations
      separately; outside this calculator.
For further information on product to fibre conversion factors, refer to “Measuring Cotton Consumption: Better Cotton Conversion Factors
      and Multipliers”.

             Limitations
RB Members with very large data sources or complex data analysis requirements may wish to use a different tool or calculation
framework. RB Members doing so should still, wherever possible, use the product weights and conversion factors from this calculator
(unless better quality and more member-specific data are available).
             Data Submission & Confidentiality
Prospective and existing RB Members should e-mail a completed copy of this workbook to Membership@BetterCotton.org and submit the
Better Cotton Annual Cotton Consumption Submission Form (in Excel format) using the link below. The Submission Form is available for
download on the Better Cotton website.

volume of all members but will neither be party to, nor release, an individual organisation's data on annual cotton purchasing or use.
