Department of Internal Medicine RESIDENCY PROGRAM - MONTHLY EXAM GUIDELINES Monthly exams are directly related to the resident’s Medical Knowledge competency training. A monthly exam will be administered to all residents on the last Tuesday of every month from 7:30am to 8:30am (in lieu of morning report). Each exam is composed of 40 questions. Questions will be randomly selected by the Program Director every month. MKSAP 14 Books The questions for the General Internal Medicine, Pulmonary/Critical Care, & Specific Subspecialty exams will be given from the MKSAP 14. GENERAL INTERNAL MEDICINE EXAM Residents rotating in the WARDS will take this exam. PULMONARY/CRITICAL CARE EXAM Residents rotating in the ICU will take this exam. SPECIFIC SUBSPECIALTY EXAM Residents rotating in the following subspecialties will take this exam. Cardiology Infectious Diseases Endocrinology Nephrology Gastroenterology Pulmonology Hematology/Oncology Rheumatology HARRISON’S ONLINE SELF-ASSESSMENT The questions for the Ambulatory exam will be from the Harrison’s Online Self-Assessment. o http://www.accessmedicine.com/features.aspx o Once you are logged in to this page, then click on ‘Self-Assess’ (blue bar) located at the top o Then click on ‘Take a Harrison’s Online Test’ located towards the middle of the page (left side) in blue letters and follow the prompts. AMBULATORY MEDICINE EXAM Residents rotating in the following rotations will take this exam. Clinic Orthopedics Dermatology Pathology ENT Psychiatry Geriatrics Radiology Ophthalmology Research EXEMPT rotations: MAKE-UP exams: ER Make-up exams will be given to residents for the following Night Float reasons AND will be given during the first week of the following Out of Town (Away Rotation) month. On Post-Call On Vacation Day Off NO PASS Other reason – as applicable 8/26/09
