THE REPUBLIC OF TURKEY GEBZE TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY CONTINUING EDUCATION PRACTICE AND RESEARCH CENTER (GTU SEM) TURKISH COURSE FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS 2021-2022 ACADEMIC YEAR As Gebze Technical University is one of the leading universities in the field of Turkish education for foreigners, Continuing Education Practice and Research Center plans to start the academic year (2021-2022) on 01 November 2021. 1. REGISTRATION Those who would like to apply from abroad are required to present their documents (student visa, employment visa, etc.). All applicants must provide their passport and a picture to GTU SEM for their registration. After the course fee has been paid, the registration can be completed by filling out the form. For registration, the applicants must personally come to GTU SEM. Registration will not be carried out through phone or e-mail. If the applicant who comes for registration indicates that he/ she has previously studied Turkish before, he/ she must prove this training with a document. 2. EDUCATION Our course is organized according to the language levels determined within the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and the prescribed communication and learner-oriented education is implemented. Accordingly, our course and certificate are structured as A1-A2 (Beginner), B1-B2 (Intermediate) and C1 (Advanced). The course instructor holds an academic career and specializes in this field. The course consists of 5 levels from A1 to C1. 3. COURSE INFORMATION Our Turkish course is 3 days a week: on Mondays from 09:00 a.m. to 05:10 p.m, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 09:00 a.m. to 04:20 p.m.. 1 level lasts 6 weeks and has a total of 5 levels (A1-A2-B1-B2-C1). Turkish course is given within the scope of 4 basic language skills. These skills are listening, writing, reading and speaking. 4. COURSE MATERIALS Istanbul Turkish Course Book and Work Book are used (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1) for the course. In addition, exercises, practical examples and reading texts appropriate to the levels are provided. 5.EXAMS To each Turkish proficiency level, listening, reading, speaking and writing parts of exam is held on Friday, at the end of every 6 weeks of classes. The students who get “70 points and above” at C1 level earn the right to “Certificate of Success”. 6.COURSE FEES Our Turkish course fee is 1,100 TRY. Payment is made by debit or credit card. Cash payment is NOT accepted! 7.TURKISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY CERTIFICATE There is also a “Turkish Language Proficiency Exam” for our students who want to get a “Turkish Language Proficiency Certificate”. Those students who score “85 points and above” are deemed as “Successful” and are entitled to receive “Turkish Language Proficiency Certificate”. The Proficiency Exam fee is 50 Euros (the fee may vary depending on the annual exchange rate!). 8. BENEFITS Students enrolled in GTU SEM can NOT benefit from facilities such as discounted transportation card or student dining hall because they are officially deemed as “course attendees”! 9. RESIDENCE PERMIT Students who registered for each level of the course at GTU SEM can only get a “3-month residence permit” along with “Student Certificate” given as “approved” from the institution, provided that they attend a course! 10. ACCOMMODATION There are no student dormitories affiliated to GTU SEM. However, the students can apply to private dormitories with the “Student Certificate” that they will receive from our center. 11.CANCELLATION OF REGISTRATION Unless there are valid reasons (pandemic, health problem, pregnancy, death, etc.) cancellation of registration or refund can not be made. Registration right can not be transferred to anyone else! If the Turkish Course is cancelled due to the institution-related reasons, the previously deposited fees will be refunded to the attendee [GTU SEM Directive- Article:7(2)]. 12.EXPULSION FROM THE COURSE GTU SEM DIRECTIVE-ARTICLE: 17 (1) In the following cases, the course attendee is expelled from the Education-Certificate Program by the decision of the GTU SEM Board of Directors: a) non-payment of enrollment fee, b) behavior against the Disciplinary Regulations for Students at Higher Education Institutions, c) any act or activity that will disrupt the functioning of the program, d) failure to comply with the attendance requirement, e) being convicted of a disgraceful crime during the program. The board of Directors of GTU SEM decides on similar situations and unforeseen issues.
