                                                                                Course Description 
         This course is a summer intensive course designed for students without any prior knowledge of Korean language. It 
         covers Korean I(KORE1000) and Korean II(KORE2000). With emphasis on drills and class interaction, students will build a 
         good foundation of both spoken and written skills in Korean. Course coverage includes basic sound system, grammatical 
         structures, vocabulary and practically used survival expressions. 
          
                                                                               Learning Outcomes 
         Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to  
         (1) read and write the Korean alphabets(Hangeul) without much difficulties; 
         (2) talk about topics such as everyday greetings, asking/giving information, shopping in Korean; 
         (3) compare and interpret the current Korean society and its culture.

                                       Two assignments will  be  posted  on  blackboard.  Timely  submission  is  expected.  Late

                                       The oral exam is made up of two parts and the details will be informed in class. 
                                       (1) In Part I:  The speaking will be taken with individually with the course instructor. (70)  
                Oral exam              (2) In Part II: Students are required to record a video of themselves, which is to talk                                        20% 
                                            about the given topic for 1 minute and 30 seconds, and to submit the link of the 
                                            video clip after uploading it on Youtube. (30) Submission of recording: 6/10 (Thur.) 
                                       The final is a closed book written exam and will be taken via Zoom for KORE2000A & 
               Final exam              2000B.                                                                                                                         35% 
                                       Exam date and time for KORE2000A / B / C: 6/8 (Tues. 12:30-1:45pm) 
          
         Notes: 
           You are required to arrive on time.  
           You are required to attend at least 75% of the class. Treat 75% attendance as the minimum, not the maximum.  
           The success of your own learning will highly depend on your attendance.  
           Should you miss more than 25% of the class, you will automatically fail the course. 
           If you are unable to attend, get informed about the content and homework you missed and make it up yourself. 
           No make-up examinations or quizzes will be provided for the absentees unless a justifiable reason is submitted with 
             relevant documents.
