COURSE: Korean Language: Basic 2 Spring 2020 INTRODUCTION In recent years global citizens have become increasingly interested in learning Korean language and culture. This short course introduces basic conversational Korean and examines the basic Korean grammar that underpins basic Korean linguistic structure and sentences necessary for daily communication. The course focuses on communication skills with attention to grammar and Korean culture and their application to practical settings in every day life. This course follows the textbook and nd workbook of “KLEAR Integrated Korean Beginning 1” (2 edition) published by University of Hawai’i Press. APPROACHES UNDERPINNING THE COURSE According to Patsy Lightbown and Nina Spada (1995), “say ‘what you mean’ and mean ‘what you say’” is important to learn the second language learning practices. Interaction in learning language is crucial to improve learner’ language in classroom teaching situations. Practical application with grammatical awareness for communicative competence will enhance the linguistic capabilities of second language learner. Further Language development specifies 5 linguistic learning approach: Second Language Learning requires continual practice. Second Language Learning is a means to communicate. Second Language Learning is a means to deliver your own intentions. Second Language Learning is a means to change your life. Second Language Learning is experimental.
